Hi Paul!!! Last week I finished my first guitar, Dred. I will try and post some pic's this week. I'm a little intimidated by my guitar next to your quality and those of others that turn out so well. I will get better as time goes bye. It does sound wonderful though! Thanks. Walter

Amen to that! Walter, there should be no intimidation here. We are all in this together. Yes, you WILL get better so it's sort of our job to keep you going so that you can put us out of business someday. Walter, that is the whole point of the excercise, If it sounds wonderful that is 99% of the job successfully done. The cosmetics are simply candyfloss, just the icing on the cake. Don't forget, it's a musical instrument whose whole purpose is to produce wonderful sound, without that it's just so much expensive kindling. Be proud of it. Colin |

Well, here's what's on one of my benches right now: 
I'm cutting the fingerboard for one 10-string classical at the moment. Behind it is a fingerboard I finished slotting last night. And behind that is the neck for the board I'm slotting right now. On the hook is one of the 10-strings, waiting for its fingerboard: 
And on another bench is the other 10-string. So far, I've just glued down the heel block and tail block. I set the sides in position for this shot. The sides are coco I bought from the Zootman. You can see the back for this guitar peeking out from the shelf below.

Paul, Well, you asked for it! Here are some pics of the guitars I am (finally) binding this week: This one is a real "Zootman Special"...the sapele and bloodwood bindings both came from BobC. 
Here wiped down to show the figure a bit: 
Here's an oval-holed cutaway in EIR with ebony bindings...I have gotten all the binding done on this one as of Monday: 
Close-up of the very plain end graft: 
Cutaway in cocobolo. This one is getting some of the Zootman's curly eucalyptus bindings: 
Cutaway in Macassar. This is going to be very "Zooty" with flamed maple bindings: 
And here is another one, not too far along. Pau ferro with an italian spruce top (the 'butterfly guitar from the "disaster recovery" thread):  
There is also a ziricote guitar which will be getting its bloodwood bindings this week, and another cutaway that will have a Laskin style armrest, but I think that's enough pics for one post! :) Oh...the bridges are just laying on the guitars for show, they are not attached!

Here's what I have going. Just about ready for finishing (KTM9). It's more ornate than what you guys usually like, but it's for my son who wanted some flash for on stage. And please excuse the lousy photography. It's an addy top, Malaysian blackwood b/s.

I am working on a line of Hoosier Ukes that commemorate different Indiana places and events. This uke commemorate Peru Indiana's rich circus history. The blue, yellow and red purflings are the colors of the Hagenback-Wallace circus. There will be an elephant inlayed on the headstock in black and white pearl. This uke was to have all Indiana woods. The top, sides and back are sycamore, the bindings black walnut and the neck cherry. Originally, this uke was to have have an Osage orange fingerboard, but the client wanted the stripes to continue on the fingerboard. We went to ebony to enhance the contrast. I've got a big pile of stuff, including some neck lam sections waiting to be glued, an acoustic waiting to be bound (Khaya/Italian), and a couple of strat-esque necks to go with the Strat and Tele sitting outside waiting for a finish-sanding. |
